I think I’m fortunate to have grown up at a time when Masterpiece Theatre (now Masterpiece) was airing fantastic BBC dramas based on English literary works by Austen, Dickens, the Brontës, Gaskell, and others. PB Well, I watched season one in January 2020, just before the world shut down, and found it really enjoyable - until it became clear that Charlotte was going to go for Sidney instead of Stringer. I watched (half-heartedly, eyes on my knitting) until the surprise ending, and while I know it broke many people’s hearts, I agreed with Theo James on it being much more interesting that way.
